Net Atlantic Awards Two Scholarships to North Shore High School Graduates

Amanda Lake of Danvers and Melissa Simons of Salem win competitive award for excellence in studies and dedication to their communities.

SALEM, MA – August 17, 2011 - Email marketing service provider Net Atlantic, Inc. its third annual scholarship competition. Net Atlantic's CEO, Andrew Lutts awarded Amanda Lake of Danvers and Melissa Simons of Salem with a $1,500 scholarship to help each of them pursue a college education.

The company collected over 30 applications and essays from high schools in Salem, Peabody, Lynn, Lynnfield, Beverly, Danvers, Marblehead, and Swampscott. Lake and Simons each won for their thoughtful, well written and moving essays, community involvement, challenges, examples of leadership among their peers, and of course exceptional grades.

"We are thrilled to recognize conscientious students like Melissa and Amanda who achieved academic excellence," said Net Atlantic CEO Andy Lutts. "As a local business, we want to encourage youth in our own neighborhoods to continue their studies."

Lake will attend Boston University where she will study Communications and Public Relations. In addition to high academic achievement, Lake worked part time, served as National Honor Society President during her Junior and Senior years, was Yearbook Editor, a Freshmen Mentor, Student Council member, and a member of the World Language National Honor Society. She was extensively involved with school clubs and extracurricular activities and showed significant volunteerism, including frequent fundraising for community causes.

Simons will attend Quinnipiac University where she will study business. In addition to studying music, participating in field hockey, her high academic achievement included National Honor Society induction during her Junior and Senior years. Simons was voted Captain of the varsity tennis team, was active in youth-oriented community service, fundraised for a local animal shelter, spoke to elementary school children about the danger of bullying, and volunteered extensively with the City of Salem, Temple Shalom and the Lappin Foundation.

"We had a strong pool of qualified candidates for the 2011 Scholarships and the Scholarship Committee had to make some difficult choices," said Jack Crozier, Chair of the Net Atlantic Scholarship Committee. "Amanda and Melissa stood out with their exceptional grades and essays, AP honors, and numerous activities from which they both drew important lessons."

"Meeting both these young women and learning of their ambitions is inspiring," added Lutts. "They are truly outstanding students who we know will succeed in college and in life."

Net Atlantic scholarship is announced each spring to both public and private schools on the North Shore. The criteria include academic excellence (grades above a 3.0 GPA), leadership qualities, participation in extracurricular activities, strong work ethic, and good citizenship within the school and the community.
